When Violence Begins At Home!

“He belts her”, “She is scared to voice her opinion because he gets violent with her”, “He is very short tempered especially with his wife”……I was shocked….totally numb…… actually speechless during this conversation. Seriously, I had no idea how to react about it. It’s not that I was listening about domestic violence for the first time but because it was about someone I know personally as a socially well behaved so called gentleman & his wife.
This discussion between some of my friends which I was a part of, made me to think about this issue.
Why does this happen? What makes a person so violent? Is this the dirty game of power? Is it to prove that I’m stronger than you? Where does the love vanishes for which they were once united?
I know there can’t be one common answer to my questions. Each relationship has its own different story.
But there are few sensible approach that can bring a difference. It may be not the cure but a step towards it.

SPEAK OUT: No, silence is not going to help at all. Voice up your thoughts either to the assailant or to someone near & dear to you.
Communication is a powerful tool that you own. Use it before it’s late.

DON’T COMPROMISE: We often hear advices such as – Just compromise for sometime, have kids & gradually everything will be sorted. Sadly, it isn’t even close to a solution. You’re in return including knowingly another new life into the mess! What example are you going to set in front of your child if the problems, fights persists? Before even you think of starting a family, think again…

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: Every country has its own law against such anti social activity. No matter where you are, try to take sometime & educate yourself about it. Taking legal help sounds a big step, but it’s worth it. After all you have all the rights to save your life & spend the rest wisely without any scars.

BE A MAN:

A relationship isn’t complete without mutual friendship, where two people decide to spend the rest of their lives connected with the bridge of love & compassion. If this is exactly what’s missing in that relationship, inspite of several attempts to save it, then what’s the use of being in it?
